The Beginning

We were married on May 6, 2006. Also known as Derby Day, 2006. Also known as my parents wedding anniversary. What a day to pick to be married on, eh? Between our wedding day, and the day before our wedding day, we had probably the most eventful, emotional, and enjoyable 2 days of our lives. I say enjoyable because, of course, we enjoyed being married. The events surrounding that joy that we possessed that day were quite…how do I put this…eventful?

Should I even bother recounting all the craziness that was our wedding? Maybe I should just call it the past and remember all the good things that happened in those two days. Of course, that would be no fun. The bad things that happened, as much as the good things, make the whole event that much more memorable.

Let’s start with the day before the wedding. For Blair, this day was just peachy. His family had just arrived in Louisville that day and spent the day with Blair. They did such things as go to the zoo and to the Louisville Slugger Bat Museum. Meanwhile, back in Richmond, we (me, my mom, my grandma, and everyone else) were getting everything ready for the Big Day. There were decorations and flowers and food and favors and guests and a photographer and everything in between to worry about. The whole day started off with me packing up the last few things that were left in my room and putting them in my car. When I tried to turn on my car so I could back it into the driveway, thus saving myself from carrying all my things any further than I absolutely had to, my car was dead. About an hour later, AAA came to tow my truck to the nearby Meineke. Since Mom is buddies with the guy over there, we were able to get them working on it pronto, and have it ready by later that day. $600.00 bucks later, it was fixed.

The setting up process went pretty well actually. Mom had everything planned precisely, and it all came together nicely. I left in the middle to get my much awaited manicure and pedicure. When it was done, and I was getting into the car, I brushed my right hand on the seat and off came all the polish that was just applied. I broke down. Dad didn’t know what to do besides put his hand on my knee. Mom touched it up as best as she could when we got home. On any other day, I wouldn’t have cared. On that day…it caused a melt down.

When I got over that, it was time to go pick up the flowers. I was ecstatic about this part. I had had dreams about how beautiful the flowers were going to look. When we got there, the florist told us that they had delivered the wrong white flowers to go in my bouquet. It was all wrong. No refund. No Discount. Just a “We’re sorry.” I was pretty upset.

As I was getting in my Mom’s car to take the flowers from our house to the church, her car wouldn’t start. I was having some crazy bad luck with automobiles that day. At least this time it was just a dead battery. We finally got the car started and off we went to place the last touch on the decor at the church. The reception looked fantastic.

All in all, the day before the wedding was a trainwreck for me. While everything eventually got done, I was ready to burst by the end of the day.

When we got to the temple the next day, it turned out that the temple had misplaced all of our paperwork. To make a long story short, we were finally married 50 minutes late, and after our guests had been moved from one sealing room, to another, and then back to the original one.

When we finished making a quick rinse of our gross car from being decorated with easy cheese and oreos and such, we got to our honeymoon suite. When we were up in our room, Blair realized he didn't have his contact's case and glasses. He went back to the car and searched. They were no where to be found. He came back to the room and searched again. No where. Car again. No where. Room again. No where. (you get the idea). He thought maybe his brothers were playing a joke on him. No one answered their phones. All I could do was just stand there hoping and praying that our wedding night wouldn't be ruined and that he'd find his glasses and contacts. We decided to just go on with the night as planned, trying our best to enjoy it (you know what I mean)...and hope we'd find them in the morning. In the morning, we ended up finding them wedged between the passenger seat and the console. Man was that frustrating.

After all is said and done, we were so happy to be married and even okay with the fact that we had some extra events that took place, just so we could remember the day even more!
