Jar of Fun-part two

I promise I wasn't planning on doing another one today. I was planning to give everyone else a chance to catch up to my awesomeness. ;) All kidding aside, though, the plan was to pace myself so I wouldn't do it great for a week and then give it up. That's kinda how things go around here...

But Cami was being a turd, and I was {this close} to freaking out at her, when I had this thought: Maybe instead of yelling at her and/or sending her to her room, I should stop what I'm doing, and do another mini-activity with her.

So, I did. And she and I were both happy, and we had a grand ol' time.

Today's activity:

We decided to take it a step further and glue the pieces to the construction paper. We used q-tips to spread it on the pieces.

Daddy Daughter Date

I can't tell you how in love with these pictures I am.
Blair wanted to go to the Science Center before the Star Trek exhibit was over
(which was Sunday)
so he took Cami on a little date!
They had SO much fun together
They got lunch on the street
And seached downtown for a place to get ice cream.
I love the picture of her giving her puppy a high five after all was said and done.
She just loved spending quality time with her daddy. :)

See this girl?

She's a potty trained girl! She has been for almost a month, now. I haven't wanted to say anything about it for that month because I didn't want to jinx anything, and while we still have the occasional accident, she hasn't worn a pull-up or diaper (even to bed) for at least two weeks. I'm so proud of her, and to be quite honest...I'm so proud of myself! It turned out that we weren't just potty training her.

SHE WAS TRAINING US!

Love you, Big Girl!

Cami.

She likes to be a mermaid, like Ariel, and swim under the sea (aka the covers on our bed which happen to be blue)

She barks at people in the store because when she's not a mermaid, she's a puppy. Sigh.

She already rolls her eyes at me. Sigh again.

She goes all out when she dances. It's quite a sight to see...

She thinks she's a wonderful singer. And she thinks the louder she sings, the better she'll be. Yeesh.

She would take a bath 5 times a day if I'd let her. Her favorite bath game just so happens to be pretending to be a mermaid, of course.

She is just learning how to undress herself completely. The shirt sometimes gives her trouble, though.

Her favorite books are Dr. Suess. She especially likes Green Eggs and Ham. She giggles when I read it really fast.

I finally broke the weight limit rule on her bed and got into bed with her. She was ecstatic. Kinda wanting to get her a twin now so we can do that more without risking the life of the toddler bed...

She calls our bed "Mommy's Bed" and the guest bed "Daddy's Bed". I have no idea why.

One of her favorite things to do is to help with the dishes. Too bad I know that won't last forever...

She puts herself in time-out all the time. I'll ask her why, and she'll say "I hit my puppy" or something like that and then hang her head.

She absolutely loves the mornings when Noah wakes up and she can run in and say "HI NOAH, YOU AWAKE?!?" but frequently asks me when it's his bedtime at night.

Angelina Ballerina.

Cami's new favorite show. Period. She has to wear her pink tutu at ALL times.

But anyway, this post is about something she said today. She had been downstairs watching said show and she comes into the bathroom while I'm getting ready:

Cami: "Mommy, do I have a tail?" (in case you didn't know...Angelina is a mouse)

Me: "No, Cami, you don't"

Cami: "I have a butt?!"

Me: (stiffling giggles) "Yes, Cami, you have a butt."

Cami: "And mommy has a BIG butt?!"

Me: (more giggles) "Yes, Cami. Mommy has a big butt. Thanks."

(ps. my weight this morning was lower than it was before I got pregnant with her...so no hard feelings, my little love.)

Cami says...

So I'm brushing Cami's teeth and hair before bedtime, and I called her Cami Brown. "I'm not Cami Brown," she says. I said, "yes you are, it's your last name! Mommy is Laura Brown, Daddy is Blair Brown, Noah is Noah Brown, and Cami is Cami Brown because we are a family!"

She looked at me really funny and this is what she says:

"I'm not Brown, Mom, I'm White!"

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Just to be clear, she pointed to her hair when she said this. We have been talking about hair color a lot since we went to Tangled and we talked about how she has hair like Rapunzel, and Mommy has brown hair. So that's where she's coming from. Any way you look at it, it's hilarious!

Today was a day focused on Cami. Blair took Cami out all by herself on a lunch date and to go Christmas shopping for mommy. When they got home, they took a nap together in our bed. Then we woke up her up, dropped Noah off at a babysitter's, and took her to see Tangled (which did NOT dissapoint) and then took her to dinner with us. She LOVED all of those things while we were doing them.

But just before bed, this is what she said to Blair:

"Daddy, thank you for walking in the snow and making footprints with me."

Tonight, while I was out, Blair and Cami were sitting on the bed watching TV. Without prompting, Cami slid over to Blair's side, rested her head on his belly, and simply said:

"I love you, Daddy."

A day at the Dentist!

So, this morning, Blair was able to squeeze me in to get my teeth cleaned at the school. I have to admit that I was a little bit nervous, but for no good reason. Blair was awesome, and I’m now convinced that they ARE teaching him something!

For so long, this life that Blair had been living what with “school” and “clinic” had been a little bit surreal. I mean, how was I supposed to know that he was really in there practicing dentistry when I’d drop him off at the front door? Well, it turns out that it’s for real, Blair is going to be a dentist, and is already quite good, if I do say so myself. Just check out my pearly whites that he cleaned so nicely! (ignore the baby fat…hopefully we’ll have that taken care of here soon…)

It was also really nice to be able to put some faces with the names of people that he’s talked about over and over again. Like Brenda.

Cami hung out with Brenda, the scheduler, while Blair worked on me. She wanted to see the dentist, too, but we told her she had to wait until her first tooth came in. She did get to sit in the chair for a second, though, just for fun :).

So, it turns out that I have quite the cavity. I guess we’ll be making another trip to the dentist in the near future. At least Blair gets to use me as a competency. Yay for caries! (is that how that’s spelled??)

Cami's Blessing

It’s a few days late, but I thought that I’d better write some thoughts down before I forget to. Blair is home and keeps telling me “It’s daddy-daughter time!” and I keep butting in and playing with Cami, too, so I finally had to remove myself so as to let him have some undivided time with his little girl. This should keep me occupied :). You’d think I get enough of her all day long, but as it turns out, she’s just too cute to handle!

Cami sure is loved because Thursday night (Aug 7th) her Grandma and Grandpa Brown flew all the way from Utah to see her get blessed. On top of that, her Aunt Julie came from Montana on Friday, and her Aunt Crystal came on Saturday from Utah as well!

Friday we went down to the river to take a ride on the Belle of Louisville. It was such a fun time, and Cami didn’t even seem to mind all the wind. Blair loved looking at all the functioning of the steam engine with his Dad, and Blair’s mom and I hung out with Cami. I’m so glad we got the chance to do that! It’s one of those things that, when you live in the city, you tend to not make time for all those special things about that city. I still haven’t been to the Slugger Museum or Churchill Downs or … anything else for that matter. I’ll have to make a point to do those things before we leave.

Friday night Julie flew in and even though it was past our bedtime, Cami just couldn’t wait to meet her cousin Conner. Conner is SUCH a cute little guy with super dark hair and the cutest chin I have ever seen. He’s just a month and a half older than Cami, so they are going to be best buds! I can’t wait until they both get a little older and can play together.

Cami and Conner

Saturday we did some grocery shopping to prepare for the after-blessing festivities, and Crystal flew in around 2. We just took it easy that night and had a good time being together.

Sunday, my family (Mom, Dad, Michael and Emmalie) got up bright and early so they could be in Louisville in time for church at 9. Mom worked her magic on the blessing dress that I was blessed in as a baby by replacing some elastic where needed and getting it all cleaned up for Cami. It meant so much to me to be able to have her blessed in that dress. I like to get a little sentimental once in a while. :) She looked absolutely beautiful!

Anyone who was there knows how beautiful the blessing was. Blair did such a good job at relaying the love and blessings that Heavenly Father has for our little Cami. One thing that Cami was blessed with was Cheerfulness. Today while I was sitting in the glider, playing with Cami after a feeding, she locked her little eyes with mine and just laughed. It made me remember that part of the blessing and I just couldn’t help but get a little teary eyed. She makes me so happy. For an instant, I found myself forgetting how hard it was to get this little girl into the world.

I would love to end this post on that happy note, but I just have to add…Sunday evening, when Blair’s parents’ visit was drawing to a close, I remembered that I wanted to get the pictures that Blair’s mom had taken on her camera of the weekend onto our computer. (we kept forgetting to take ours with us…) SO I popped out the memory card, stuck it in my little card reader thing, and hooked it up to our computer. I still don’t know exactly what happened, but all the hundreds of pictures that were on her memory card suddenly disappeared. Most of those pictures had already been saved to their computer at home, but the last 2 weeks were lost…and there’s still a chance they’ll be able to fix the card, but I’m doubtful. Of course it had to be me to be the one to screw it up, right? So, needless to say, I have very few pictures to add to this post. Luckily we did get a couple of shots after that had happened to at least have proof that they were here. :) Fun, huh? Ugh…

Anyway, Cami is officially Camille Ann Brown. We call her Cami, Goose, Baby Bug, Munchkin, Kitty Whiskers, Camerkins (it just slipped out one day!) and everything in between, so we’ll see what she ends up going with. I put my money on “Goose”.
