I have been feeling particularly crafty lately. Let me clarify, though. I'm not really creative, but I do like to make things. I love following patterns and instructions, but I'm not really good at coming up with my own ideas. Anyway, lately I've been craving stuff like that, but I haven't felt like sewing. So I had my eye out for things that I needed solutions to around the house, and it occured to me that Cami didn't really have a good place to keep all of her books. I knew a bookshelf was an obvious solution, but I kinda prefered something that we could just throw them into instead of having to stack them nicely all the time. (I'm lazy...)
So I was at Joanns, and they had these pine milk crate boxes that were unfinished, and I picked one up. I had some white paint and some primer for preparing bare wood for paint and I even had some left over sand paper from another project. The only other things that I bought to make this beauty was the stencil for the flowers, and a stencil brush (although, I'm sure I could have used a regular one, but I am glad I got the stencil brush).
Not particularly ecstatic about how the letters turned out. I had been playing around with Mod Podge and found that construction paper worked really well with it, so I printed out some letters onto the construction paper and cut it out and glued them on and sealed them with the Mod Podge. I just wish they looked cuter...or I wish I had just gotten stencils and painted the letters on instead of doing the construction paper. But I'm okay with it.
Anyway, the Mod Podge was also really great to seal the rest of the box so that it felt nice and slick. I don't feel like it'll smudge off on the books, which is great.
I'm on the look out for blogs that have good tutorials for crafts. Sewing blogs are welcome, too, cause I'm sure my desire to sew will return eventually. :)
