Spring Cleaning

No, I don't mean cleaning the house. That will come in due time when we start packing to move.

What I'm talking about is a virtual cleaning.

Many of you probably know that I *might* be a Facebook junkie. It's up for debate. I don't really feel like I'm addicted (I don't count playing Tetris as "facebooking"), but ask Blair, and he'll beg to differ. You may remember the facebook ban that Blair put me on when I burned the brownies because I was "thumbing" through friend's pictures.

What I'm talking about is Friend's list cleaning. I was reading this article on a Blog that I recently started following and at the bottom was referred to THIS article (gotta give credit where credit is due).

While I still maintain that I'm not an addict, I will admit that I could spend quite a bit less time clicking through people's profiles and thumbing through random pictures of people that...let's be honest...I really don't care about. In the second article I mentioned, the author mentions 8 different ways to keep social networking from taking over your life. After reading the list, I was inspired to go through all my friends on Facebook and delete a good chunk of them. I have already weeded through my 'News Feed' and stopped several people's random facebook adventures from even showing up (thanks to the new changes), but I think I want to be more drastic.

Maybe it had something to do with my competitive nature. When I first got on facebook...I dunno...4 or 5 years ago (yah...I joined back when you couldn't sign up if you didn't have a university email address and high schoolers weren't allowed--those were the days...) it was all about building your friend's list to be as big as possible. I can still say that besides maybe 3 or 4 people, I actually do know, some random way or another, every single person I have either added or accepted. Don't ask me how those 3 or 4 got there...maybe I was walking in my sleep at the time, but at this very moment, I have 602 friends. Yah...I'm pretty cool. But ask me how many of those people I would miss if I deleted every single one. Maybe 100. Maybe 50.

So today I'm doing some Spring Cleaning. Don't worry...chances are, if you are reading this, I actually care about you and want to see what's going on in your life. To be honest, I'll probably only get myself to delete 100 or so this first go around. Still...if I can do that, I think that I will drastically decrease the amount of litter that I have to weed through in order to keep up with people I actually want to keep up with. And then maybe...just maybe...I'll spend less time facebooking, and more time playing tetris. I mean...being productive. :)

I hope you're proud of me, Rachel.

That's funny you say those things, cause I was totally talking to Trent about kind of the same thing the other day! People try and almost make you feel guilty so that you add them as a friend, but honestly if it isn't benifical to both parties to be friends, why should we accept them? Example; I want to keep up with their life and they want to keep up with mine. I need to stop feeling so guilty if I don't add someone! So you gave me a great idea, I think I will spring clean too! And I am not going to add someone unless I really want to :o) Thanks Laura!!

Okay, that's funny! Your called yours "Spring Cleaning" and I called mine "Purging". I totally wrote mine before I read yours. We are on the same page! I've been thinking the same thing with FB. I don't except every invitation to be friends. I'm getting a little bored with it altogether though. Sometimes I'm really into it, then I can't stand it. So Clean it, or Purge it out, you go girl!

I just can't do it... I have people that I don't talk to that much, yes, but that sometimes i am "curious" about. From High School and stuff. I even have some friends from elementary school that I have reconnected with. Maybe one day I will find the courage to do what you and all these other people did!
